The instructor (SENSEI), Jerry Hughey (5th Dan), began studying karate in Murfreesboro in 1976, after graduating from MTSU with a Bachelor of Science degree in Chemistry. In 1977, he accepted a position with FaberCastell and moved to Lewisburg, Tennessee. Today he owns MAKAMARK, LLC, a manufacturing company making dry erase whiteboard markers and inks.
He continued studying Wado Ryu under Ray Cross and Don Hendrix until the school closed in 1980. He continued his Wado Ryu training under instructor, Jerry Potts - Columbia dojo, where he received his 1st Dan. In 1984, Hughey began teaching in Ardmore, Alabama and in 1986 moved his school to Pulaski. In 2000, he received his 5th dan under the late, Sensei Cecil T. Patterson.
